Many of the anti-CoS people on this newsgroup have made the conscious decision NOT to join the CoS, for precisely the reason you discovered: it's garbage. It's a money-wasting scam.

One of my reasons for being here is to warn others away - those who don't know the TRUTH about the organization. You were able to see both sides of the argument, and you had access to both the pro-CoS materials and the anti-CoS materials. The "church" of Scientology is doing everything it possibly can to ensure that people DON'T have access to the same materials you have seen. That's why they've engaged in their ruthless war against the critics and skeptics.

That's why I consider alt.religion.scientology to be a valuable tool. Despite the best efforts of the "church" of Scientology to hide the TRUTH, it is coming out. People all over the world are able to see BOTH sides of the story now - not just the prefabricated one presented by the CoS. People are able to make their own decisions, in the manner that you have done so.

I believe that Scientology is a scam, and I am confident that most (if not all) of the people who take the time to examine both sides of the issue will make the same decision you did.
