i will take this moment to state that despite my earlier attack on
the administration of the university, that i now feel that their actions
in response to the cult's accusations were entirely justified, and
don't represent the general trend toward bending over backwards for
censorship which we see in academia.
indeed, i feel that the way that paul smee and others dealt with this
attempt at censorship was not only rapid but entirely sensible, in light
of current attacks on free speech. the account was restored within hours,
the result was speedier than any court, and indeed the administration of
the university behaved responsibly in any manner.
they have indicated, indeed, that any future bizarre accusations from
the cult of scientology will be treated with the suspicion they deserve,
and have restored the account.
i apologize for having accused them unfairly.
they behaved with the due consideration which reflects a balance between
unfettered free speech and the protection of the rights of society at
large. their response was speedier than any other i've seen in cases
of this kind, and i believe they behaved responsibly and speedily.
thanks.
i only wish other universities would behave with the same responsibility
as you have done in the face of nasty threats from barratrous and vicious
cults.
