Dianetics and The Discovery Channel

I wrote the following letter to John Hendricks, who is the president of Discovery Communications. (AKA The Discovery Channel & The Learning Channel)

The letter explains the situation. I would urge more people to contact him regarding the showing Scientology Propaganda.

Dear Mr. Hendricks,


I am writing you to voice my displeasure with your choice in advertisers.
On June 23, 1995 I was viewing your excellent feature entitled "A Brief
History Of Time." During the program two advertisements for the book
"Dianetics" were shown. In case you are not aware of this fact, "Dianetics"
is published by the Cult of Scientology.


The Cult of Scientology has a long criminal history. In the early eighties
many of the Cult's leaders were charged, convicted and imprisoned for crimes
relating to the infiltration of government agencies.


More recently, the Cult has declared war on the INTERNET.  The Cult routinely
posts disinformation to alt.religion.scientology on the INTERNET.  The Cult
has filed a multitude of nuisance suits against its critics with the sole
purpose of bankrupting them.  In addition to all of this, the Cult has
resorted to physical harassment of its critics.  I have taken the liberty
of including a 1991 article from "TIME" magazine and a 1992 article from
"QUILL" magazine to help illustrate just how dangerous an organization this
really is.


I have always viewed "The Discovery Channel" and "The Learning Channel"  as
safe islands in the vast wasteland of television.  Because of your implied
support of the Cult of Scientology, I have had to rethink my position.  I
have blocked both of these channels from entering my home.  I do not want
my family to be exposed to these amoral values.  I will be more than willing
to unblock these channels should you reevaluate your relationship with the
Cult.


I would also like to invite you to stop in at alt.religion.scientology on
the INTERNET. I think you would find the discussion going on there a real
eye opener.
