Andrew Milne identified !!!By rnewman@ATHENA.MIT.EDU (Ron Newman)9 Jun 1995 18:20:59 GMT _The Spectator_ is a weekly magazine of politics in the United Kingdom. It leans towards the right (Conservative Party) in its politics. On 14 November 1987, _The Spectator_ published an article called "The Secret Scientologist", by Roy Kerridge. The article appeared on pages 22 and 24. Mr. Kerridge visited Saint Hill Manor in response to an invitation that read: "Mr. Andrew Milne would like the pleasure of the company of Charles Moore for a visit to Saint Hill Manor, home of author and philosopher L. Ron Hubbard." Charles Moore, the editor of _The Spectator_, could not attend, so he sent Mr. Kerridge in his place. Mr. Kerridge had visited Saint Hill Manor once before, in 1977, and enrolled as a "Hubbard Apprentice Scientologist" even though he took no actual courses (thus becoming "the secret Scientologist" of the article's title). Mr. Kerridge describes Andrew Milne as follows: "a slim young Scottish executive with a grey suit and sandy eyebrows" and said that, at one point, Mr. Milne "dashed into a door marked `Office of Special Affairs', his workplace" Andrew Milne responded to Mr. Kerridge's article in a letter to the editor of _The Spectator_, published November 28, 1987, pages 28-29. The letter (which shows surprisingly jocular good humor) is signed Andrew Milne Public Affairs Officer, Saint Hill Manor, East Grinstead, Sussex So from this, we know at least that Andrew Milne was an OSA employee in England in 1987 -- Ron Newman Email: <rnewman@mit.edu> Web: http://www.mit.edu:8001/people/rnewman/home.html(I speak only for myself, not for any part of MIT.)
