Sell Them!!By steve@swhitlat.com (steve)Wed, 17 May 1995 19:22:27 GMT Scientology is still using the same sales tactics that were used twenty years ago. I spent a little time with the scientology sales force; however, I spent much more time on the ``Project Force'' (don't ask, you wouldn't believe it). I think I can even remember Wonderfool Russ (yes, the same pro-scientology Wonderfool Russ who posts here in alt.religion.scientology) being ``regged'' (signed up) at the Phoenix org, back around 1976 or so. I think Judy did it. The way we always operated on public was to: 1) FIND THEIR RUIN This means to get them to reveal something they feel is ruining their life. The ``personality test'' is a simple con game used to get a new public person to open up. The ``ruin'' is always something that they are very ashamed of and worried about. If no ``ruin'' is revealed, it's unlikely that the sales process can continue. Typical ruins involve perpetrating or being subjected to sex crimes, violence, various fears and neuroses, feelings of unworthiness, things the person is ashamed of about themself, etc. 2) CAVE THEM INTO THEIR RUIN This means to push their buttons concerning the ruin that has just been found. We make them *feel* that shame or feeling of inadequacy. We make them *feel* that fear, that neurosis, that anger, whatever. It's best if the person can be brought to tears. 3) CONVINCE THEM THAT SCIENTOLOGY CAN SOLVE THE PROBLEM This part amounts to telling lies that ``prove'' the assertion that scientology can cure whatever private trouble it is they have been stupid enough to divulge. This is usually the easiest step. Most people tend to believe what they want to be true.
4) GET THE MONEY Scientologists go to *great* lengths to get the money. We studied the book Big League Sales Closing Techniques and many other books that all emphasize high-pressure sales techniques. You have never seen high-pressure sales techniques until you have seen scientology registrars at work. They are totally unprincipled. And, of course, the details of the person's ``ruin'' that was *confidentially* discussed with the personality test evaluator, and in such a crushingly emotional way, is now brought up again and again by the registrar (salesperson) and a truly ungodly amount of pressure is brought to bear on the victim. Registrars will pressure people to beg, borrow, steal, and sell everything they own in their attempts to GET THE MONEY, which is veiled as an effort to ``help'' the person. Scientology is the very best example of everything that scientology points out as being bad.
