Dennis Erlich is just one of many ex-scientologists who : moan and complain about how horrible they are. It would seem to me he's : suckering a bunch of people with too much time on their hands and nobody : nearby to hate. Why do you give two shits what CofS does?

Territoriality. This is the NET, our village. Dennis moved in and became a net.citizen. He was helpful, learned the rules, behaved himself, and (odd as this might seem to CoS) was respected. CoS came into our village shit in the well (attacking penet), burned down a few houses (the raid on Dennis, the cancel poodle) and generally behaved like barbarians.

It operates in : the free world and is protected by the same laws that protect Mr. Erlich : and all the other "injured souls" who attribute their lack of personal : success to causes other than themselves.

I think you might want to read a little more of the material posted here. CoS (typical for similar intense groups) does not feel itself bound by the same laws and customs as the rest of us.

Why not spend your considerable : free time stopping real tragedy and human suffering.

Because CoS has gone so far out of its way to motivate us. Do you have *any* idea of how hard it is to motivate net.folks to get out in the real world? To *picket*? CoS has managed the nearly impossible. And they continue. Vera's attacks on Dennis and the EFF may have netted upwards of 5k. Actually, my hat is off to CoS, *I* quit playing Doom! (and on the 28th level at that).

Scientology is going : to survive or fail on it's own merits.

Sound good to me.

You guys are hardly as significant : as a speed bump.

Hmm. Ever gone over a speed bump at 45 mph?

: That I'll heartily agree with. As an eyewitness to 25 years of CofS : history, the notion that they are capable of effectivily waging a covert : campaign against a bunch of naysayers is both humourous and very telling : of the relative reality awareness of the ars boneheads.

Please try again. The above does not parse for me.

The CofS strides : forward not because of it's cruel and calculating machinations, but : because many people see it as offering something they need.

It is absolutely amazing how many former CoS folks feel ripped off.

The ars crowd : though, has decided that those people don't need CofS. How nice... who : gave you guys that right?

Consider: RPF, overboarding, beans and rice, offloading old or sick staff, wages far below minimum, the way children are treated, forced abortions, the few at the top who live like kings and treat rich actors with the spoils of their control over serfs. Actually, as long as people know what they are getting into, I doubt net.folks would much care.

: Yup. Though for PR reasons CofS has long since abandoned publication of : Fair Game policy, it is a prevelant attitude amongst the adherents. But it : is also prevelant amongst the adherents of most religions, political : parties, many members of all races and a large portion of people with : college degrees.

I think you havea ways to go in recovering. The idea of a world where a significant fraction of the population acted like CoS management is seriously depressing.

I think you guys have erred... you have observed human : nature to be a threat when CofS'ers exhibit it, but have ignored it in : yourselves and others.

I think there is plenty of case evidence right here that uncivilized behavior is condemmed by the anti fraction on a.r.s. Keith Henson
