Ron finds the appropriate quote from the Chicago Tribune, Sunday June 16, 1991, section 5, page 2:

It [the Time article] was head-turning and tougher than a six-day series by the Los Angeles Times a year ago that culminated an investigation whose four-year length made it something of an office joke.

The final L.A. Times product, which read as if it had been watered down by a dozen Nervous Nellie lawyers, portrayed Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard as erratic and deceitful. The church came off as a bit slimy in seeking footholds in business and education, but the whole thing was a wet kiss compared with Time magazine's recent efforts.

This is the premiere example of Andy Milne's work here on a.r.s. It typifies the strategy used by OSA in their efforts to make their "Church" <spit> acceptable to the general public. It is probably the sleaziest, cheapest sort of PR that I've ever seen anywhere, and that includes U.S. presidential campaigns, tin- pot banana republic dictators, and big-time multi-national corporations. Nothing could outdo the cynical, deceitful manipulation of the media demonstrated to us here by Andrew Milne, the OSA, and the Church <spit> of Scientology[tm].

To put the depths of this hypocrisy in perspective, I quote from a message posted to this newsgroup by Andy Milne just today:

Yeah, sure Andy.
